Luke Chapman

Luke came to the Bar in 2014 and was admitted as a solicitor in 2006.

Luke has broad practice with a focus on public law, commercial disputes, and proceeds of crime litigation. He appears in all Courts and Tribunals in NSW (including regularly appearing in the NSW Coronial jurisdiction) and has experience appearing both led and unled in the New South Wales Court of Appeal and in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal.

Luke’s principal areas of practice include:

  • Public Law – significant experience in highly-sensitive matters including suppression applications and public interest immunity claims. Broad experience in Coronial proceedings acting for both individual and institutional witnesses. Regularly briefed to act for and on behalf of the NSW Attorney General; NSW Police and various the NSW Departments (including Office of Local Government; Valuer-General for NSW; Department of Planning and Environment)). Mr Chapman also has experience acting in matters involving the Australian Defence Force (he is a Major with the Australian Army Legal Corps); NSW Crime Commission; Australian Federal Police; VicPol and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.
  • Commercial Law – strong background in a broad spectrum of commercial disputes.
  • Proceeds of Crime – specialised experience AML and financial crime.
  • Crime – accepts briefs in crime generally (both sentencing and trial briefs).

Luke’s professional background includes:

  • 2012 – 2014: Senior Litigation Lawyer for the Australia Federal Police (Proceeds of Crime);
  • 2007 – 2012: Senior Associate, Commercial Disputes, at Henry Davis York Lawyers (Now Norton Rose Fulbright); and
  • 2006: Tipstaff to Justice KR Handley AO KC, NSW Court of Appeal.
